AboutOur Story: The Next Generation
In the 1970s and 1980s, things really began to change in the world of business, and the company underwent changes to keep up with the times. Commercial products had been dropped years ago, and now electronics were added. Over the next few years, the company purchased four additional buildings for expanded showroom space as furniture lines consisting of entertainment centers, curio cabinets and home office categories were added.
In 2001, a nearby fire spread and consumed one of the company's warehouse buildings. That structure was rebuilt to house a large La-Z-Boy showroom. In 2006, a complete Sleep Source bedding showroom was added to feature nationally-recognized brands such as Tempur-pedic, Simmons and Spring Air. A superior line of realistic electric fireplaces was also added to the product mix during the renovation. Alton Refrigeration soon had to begin advertising as Alton Refrigeration & Home Furnishings, because people who were unfamiliar with the company had no idea how many types of products we actually sold. After all, the name "Alton Refrigeration" does not exactly tell you that we carry such brands as Frigidaire, Whirlpool, KitchenAid and Amana appliances. It definitely doesn't tell you that we offer a huge selection of Sony, Samsung and Toshiba televisions and home theaters. Neither does the shorter name inform you of the Eagle, Broyhill, Flexsteel Signature Gallery and La-Z-Boy furniture we carry in addition to wall decor, lamps, tables and our state-of-the-art bedding showroom. |
